Boston College Football vs Fordham: Offense, Defense, and the 2-Deep
Dylan Lonergan Named Starting Quarterback for Boston College Football
What to Watch For
- Lonergan’s first start. This is mostly what I’ll be thinking about on Saturday. I’d really love to see new quarterback Dylan Lonergan ball out against an FCS team just to see what he’s physically capable of. He’ll probably only play for the first half, but I still expect him to make some big plays and hit some deep receivers deep down the field a few times. The excitement around Alumni Stadium for those moments will be great, even if it is just Fordham.
- No injuries, please. BC should win this game easily. I’d like them to get through with a win, get some playing time for the back-ups, and avoid any injuries. Those are the biggest priorities.
- Get out to an early lead. Obviously. The Rams went 2-10 last season with wins over Colgate and Georgetown. BC has had some FCS scares in recent years, like Holy Cross in 2023 and even Maine in 2022. But I don’t expect this game to be like one of those. BC mopped the floor with Duquesne last year, 56-0, and I expect a similar result on Saturday. Get an early lead and get those back-ups into the game by halftime.
Prediction: Boston College 48 Fordham 6
Coming out of my cage and I’ve been doing just fine…
Around College Football
Since we don’t have much to talk about this week for BC’s game, and there’s no actual betting line, let’s take a look at the FanDuel odds across the ACC and the rest of college football to pick some winners! You can find all of the odds here.
Georgia Tech @ Colorado – Friday 8/29 at 8PM ET
- Georgia Tech -4.5
- Tech’s offense is going to look really good this year. Their defense isn’t stellar, but they should be able to outscore Colorado pretty easily I think. I’ll take GT to cover.
#1 Texas @ #3 Ohio State – Saturday 8/30 at 12PM ET
- Ohio State -1.5
- OSU at home facing Arch Manning, who is basically a new starting quarterback. I know they lost some talent from their national championship team, but I still like the Buckeyes here.
Syracuse @ #24 Tennessee – Saturday 8/30 at 12PM ET
- Tennessee -13.5
- Syracuse confuses me. BC beat them in a really weird game last year and the Orange went 10-3 on the season anyway. I still don’t really trust them and they have a new QB, so I’ll take Tennessee here to cover.
#8 Alabama @ Florida State – Saturday 8/30 at 3:30PM ET
- Alabama -13.5
- Is anyone buying this FSU redemption arc? I don’t even see them making a bowl game TBH. Give me Alabama to cover.
Coastal Carolina @ Virginia – Saturday 8/30 at 6PM ET
- Virginia -11.5
- I don’t think Tony Elliott has the juice to turn this program around. Most of the preseason previews I saw about Virginia seem to be betting that continuity and development will help UVA improve, but I just don;‘t see it. CCU to cover.
#9 LSU @ #4 Clemson – Saturday 8/30 at 7:30PM ET
- Clemson -3.5
- Brian Kelly and losing opening week games that immediately put a damper on the season. Name a more iconic duo. I’ll take Clemson to cover.
Cal @ Oregon State – Saturday 8/30 at 10:30PM ET
- Oregon State -2.5
- ACC games starting at 10:30PM ET should be illegal. I get why it’s happening, but I don’t like it. I’ll take Oregon State just out of spite.
Virginia Tech @ #13 South Carolina – Sunday 8/31 at 3PM ET
- South Carolina -7.5
- VT is full of transfers and brand new coordinators on both sides of the ball. Maybe they will end up being good this season, but I don’t expect it to work very well in Week 1. I’ll take SCAR to cover.
#6 Notre Dame @ #10 Miami – Sunday 8/31 at 7:30PM ET
- Notre Dame -2.5
- Miami is a fraud every year. It gives me no pleasure to take Notre Dame, especially considering they have an untested new QB, but I’m picking them nonetheless.
TCU @ North Carolina – Monday 9/1 at 8PM ET
- TCU -3.5
- Bill Belichick’s personal life be damned! I still think he’s a great football coach. I’ll take UNC to win outright.
In case you couldn’t tell, these are mostly vibes predictions based on all of the college football content I’ve been consuming over the past couple of months. Let me know in the comments where I screwed up!
