Manchester United is reportedly very close to keeping one of its own at home for the foreseeable future.
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, once exiled this season, has reportedly played his way back into the picture with the club hierarchy and is set for a new contract to stay at his boyhood club.
Samuel Luckhurst reported on Tuesday that there is a verbal agreement between the player and club for a new five-year deal and a nice salary bump up to 150k/week.
Mainoo returned to the fold immediately after the departure of Ruben Amorim, and has been a key player in the middle of the park next to Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes under interim boss Michael Carrick. His ability to move the ball and turn through pressure was on display again in United’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, registering a 100% final third passing rate with 21 carries, 5 ball recoveries and 3 interceptions in midfield.
A new deal is expected before the end of the season, and would keep the local lad in Red into the 2030s.
