According to a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, former Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick pushed for — and subsequently closed — the deal that brought Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon to Catalonia:
🚨🤝 Hansi Flick is the main driver behind the imminent transfer of Anthony Gordon.
There were several profiles and options, but Flick wanted Gordon – whatever it takes. He even convinced the player himself during talks. The deal is expected to be finalised in the next 48
hours.
Marcus Rashford’s future at Barcelona remains possible – but not under the currently requested conditions🏴
There is some poetic justice here with Flick getting a player that he wanted. After all, not getting players that he requested was one of the major reasons that his tenure at Bayern Munich ended. The fact that FC Barcelona showed him that kind of support — at the expense of Bayern Munich — probably felt pretty good in some ways to the 61-year-old.
Regardless, it seems like FC Barcelona rolled out the red carpet for Gordon, while Bayern Munich sat back and hoped to get a lower price. For the Bavarians, it is now on to Plan B — and fans will be excited at the prospect of the club adding more talent to an already loaded roster. Who will it be?
