Bayern Munich scraped out a rugged 2-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League, but it was far from pretty.
The Bavarians scuffled with unforced errors and choppy play where things never
really settle into a rhythm despite the team dominating the ball. In truth, USG did not have the firepower to keep up with Bayern Munich, but still almost managed to make this a game on a few occasions. There was much to discuss on the match, so here are some takeaways we had:
- That was, perhaps, Bayern Munich’s worst effort all season…and they still won 2-0.
- Despite that, it was not a performance that was worthy of many accolades. It seems as if the heavy schedule finally caught up to the Bavarians.
- Aleksandar Pavlović is quickly maturing into a top-notch central midfielder.
- Tom Bischof needs some minutes in the midfield, but it is starting to feel more and more like he will have a brief tenure in Bavaria as Vincent Kompany continues to play him out of position.
- It feels like it would have made sense to start Joshua Kimmich at right-back. Kimmich had a very solid game in the midfield, though.
- Harry Kane was just what the doctor ordered for the attack on a day where Lennart Karl did not bring much to the table and Michael Olise was not himself.
- Jonathan Tah — again — had a strong game.
- Honestly, I’m just glad that one is over.
