The story of AEW and its next TV deal is not going away until, well, they procure the next TV deal. The latest talk going around, with rumors speaking on as much just today, is that even within WWE there are those spreading word that AEW will not be on Paramount after David Ellison’s purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery is finalized. There have also been caveats that no one really knows who will be making the call on as much once the merger actually happens.
If nothing else, uncertainty reigns right
now.
For what it’s worth, AEW boss Tony Khan pushed back on that talk while speaking with the media after the ROH Supercard of Honor show (via F4WOnline.com):
“I saw a report today saying somebody in WWE is telling people within WWE talking about AEW’s next TV deal and talking about what we’re doing. And I was surprised by that and I’ll say what they said could not be further from the truth and they’re entitled to their opinions. I’ve been trying to be respectful to them and try to conduct myself as a gentleman and then for them to go on background and spread these things…I’ll just turn the other cheek, and maybe a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have done it like that.”
He would also say he’s excited about the merger and thinks there are many opportunities even for ROH.
AEW’s deal isn’t up until 2027 but talk of what’s next is surely going to continue.
