Summary: My brother from another mother, Mr. Taj Powell joins the Cards form Springfield, OH, a hotbed for MAC-tion athletes and guys looking to play ball in the Big Ten, or in Taj’s situation, the WVU Mountaineers. One trip to WVU likely opened his eyes to the trash heap that is Morgantown (I kid, I kid) and Powell opted to take his Top 50 Ohio ranking and come continue the tradition of absolute studs roaming
the linebacker position over the last few decades here at Louisville.
The true freshman passed on his last semester of high school and got in the mix early, enrolling back in January and competing in Spring workouts. His has great size and good strength for a kid just a few months removed from high school competition, and those extra months in the weight room and under the nutrition coaches will pay big dividends this fall where I think we see Powell cut teeth on special teams and maybe even get a few looks in the right situation. With the new “5 for 5”, we’re not talking about a Wendy’s combo, but an opportunity to get guys like Powell on the field early because redshirts basically no longer exist. Side note, not a big jersey guy myself, but may have to spring for a ‘Powell’ t-shirt if the guy plays like I believe he can.
