Jonny Evans will return to the Manchester United dugout to join his former teammate Darren Fletcher who takes over the caretaker role following the dismissal of former head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday.
Evans’ Old Trafford return marks the end of what can now be described as a brief hiatus from the club after he left his role as head of loans and pathways barely less than a month ago
to spend time with family. He had previously accepted the role back in June 2025.
Fletcher’s staff now includes Under-21s head coach Travis Binnion and assistant Alan Wright along with Evans. Considering Fletcher’s own permanent role as Under-18s coach alongside his bench of assistants, you would be probably right to assume that the first team will lean more heavily on the academy as the club waits for first teamers to return from AFCON and injuries.
United’s first match under Fletcher is set for Wednesday, Jan. 7 at newly-promoted Burnley who currently sit in 19th place in the league.
