Some days, Lennart Karl probably needs to pinch himself just to make sure he is not dreaming.
Champions League bangers? A bevy of Man-of-the-Match awards? Double-digit Bundesliga starts before his first professional contract? Yes, all of that has happened and more in a season that has not only been a dream come true for the 18-year-old, but for Bayern as well. Karl is the academy breakout fans have been hoping for, and after Aleksandar Pavlović’s emergence just a couple seasons ago, it is starting
to seem like a regular occurrence for the Bayern campus.
Even Karl has caught himself off guard by how fast it has all happened.
“I was sometimes surprised at how everything turned out,” Karl shared in an interview this month with Kicker journalists Frank LInkesch and Mario Krischel, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “But I always thought I could do it. So I persevered and worked hard. I’m very satisfied, but of course there’s always room for improvement. Hopefully I can score more goals, provide more assists, and deliver even better performances.”
Self-belief has certainly seemed a key component of Karl’s fast ascension at Bayern. Though he is still young, Bayern’s dazzling attacking spark is demonstrating the right mentality to become one of the greats.
