The Dallas Cowboys are all-in… in one way.
Jerry Jones once infamously tried to twist what that expression meant and I will stop myself while I am ahead. Word broke on Sunday evening that America’s Team is bringing in veteran pass rusher Von Miller and the move is the latest example of the Cowboys giving their full and total trust to their new defensive coordinator.
Consider part of Christian Parker’s past. Consider the 2021 season specifically.
Parker spent that season with the Denver Broncos. Miller
was ultimately traded to the Los Angeles Rams during the season and helped them win the Super Bowl in their own building, but Von Miller was a part of those Broncos. Christian Parker has a history there. It may not be super intimate, but it is there.
This year the Super Bowl is back in SoFi Stadium and it appears that Parker is leaning on his past and perhaps his rolodex of friends from that time. It should also be noted that he had a stop in College Station with Texas A&M football at the collegiate level, and while Parker was not around Miller there, it is possible that he has a network of people who know the player well.
It is nice to see the Cowboys trusting Parker’s instincts and history. We have begged the front office to let someone else, anyone else, take the wheel, and their new hotshot defensive coordinator has his hands at 10-2.
Hopefully the move winds up working for the Cowboys so that they can continue down this path. Christian Parker is changing the Cowboys step by step, and Von Miller is the latest example of that.
