I will never have a crazier 7 days in my life. If I do, I look forward to the absolute roller coaster ride that it will entail. It all started last Thursday afternoon, when my wife called me and told me that she
was being sent to the ER. Her blood pressure had risen to a really high level. By Friday night, her preeclampsia was starting to affect her liver enzymes, potentially causing harm to both her and our twins that were supposed to be due Christmas Day.
I attended our baby shower on Saturday afternoon, which was scheduled over a month ago, returning to the hospital around 6:30 with gifts in tow. Less than an hour later, we were told that the twins would have to be born the next morning. After getting our 4-year-old shipped off to Grandma and Grandpa’s, I packed a bag and went back to the hospital.
On Sunday morning, at exactly 30 weeks along, at 8:23 and 8:24 a.m. Briscoe Bernard and Helen Ann Shearer were born. Briscoe weighed 3 pounds 3 ounces and Helen weighed 2 pounds 2 ounces. I’ve gotten to play the role of single Dad with our oldest, so she’s ready for Mom to come home.

By the time you read this today (Thursday), my wife will be returning home. That’s the good news. The bad news…I’ve developed a tooth infection to the point I’m having it extracted at 7:30 a.m. So, between me being hopped up on drugs from the surgery and my wife still sore from the twins, there won’t be a healthy parent at home for 24 hours…GOD HELP US!!! Here are your flakes…
