The World Series is finally here! After a grueling 162-game regular season and an exciting playoff field, it all comes down to this as the Los Angeles Dodgers face off against the Toronto Blue Jays.
It
has been 32 years since Toronto last went to the World Series, when they won the title in 1993. Since then, it’s been a mix of good years that stalled out in the playoffs and disappointing years. However, 2025 just may be their time as a combination of strong pitching and an explosive offense netted them the best record in the American League.
They will send rookie starter Trey Yesavage (2-1, 4.20 ERA) to the mound to kick off Game 1. Yesavage was drafted 20th overall in 2024 and has quickly delivered on his prospect status. In six total starts between the regular season and the postseason, he has proven to be a quality starter with an electric arsenal. In 15 playoff innings, he has 22 strikeouts against seven walks. With the unorthodox delivery and potential of some of the wonky command, Yesavage will have to be careful with his mistakes against a seasoned Dodgers lineup.
The Dodgers are looking to be the first team since the 2000 New York Yankees to win consecutive World Series titles. After defeating the Yankees in 2024, the Dodgers navigated a regular season full of pitching injuries and a shaky bullpen to win yet another NL West division title and reach the playoffs. Entering as a Wild Card team may have proven fruitful for them as they have had a relatively breezy time through the postseason, sweeping two of their series and losing just one game thus far.
They will send one of their many aces, Blake Snell (3-0, 0.86 ERA), to the mound for the start. Snell has been nearly unhittable in the postseason, allowing just two runs on six hits over 21 innings. His experience and nastiness have been on full display with 19 strikeouts against four walks, and he is coming off a start in which he tossed eight scoreless innings. He last faced the Blue Jays in August, when he threw five scoreless innings at home. In his career, he owns a 2.39 ERA in 16 starts against Toronto with a 2.63 ERA at Rogers Centre.
