Bayern Munich issued a release providing a quick update on the status of Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and Jonas Urbig, who were all injured in the team’s 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday:
Alphonso Davies, Jonas Urbig, and Jamal Musiala are injured after FC Bayern’s 6-1 victory in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at Atalanta Bergamo: Davies suffered a strain to the hamstring in his right leg. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig was diagnosed with concussion. Jamal Musiala is suffering
from pain in his left ankle, which he injured in the summer. These are the results of thorough examinations by FC Bayern’s medical department. All three players will have to take a break for the time being.
None of this is good news, of course, but it could be worse…a lot worse. For Musiala and Davies, it has to be questioned why they have been working so intensely following major injuries. Both have had lingering issues since their respective returns, but have been allowed to play.
With the potential for massive games down the road and comfortable leads in the Bundesliga and Champions League tie vs. Atalanta, now could be the time to get the duo healthy and confident.
As for Urbig, his situation will have to be monitored closed in the coming days.
