How’s everybody feeling? Two losses in three games isn’t a comfortable place to sit, as a fan of a team who is the defending champs and have aspirations for an attempt at a repeat.
The Seattle Seahawks lost in Week 5, to possibly the biggest threat in the NFC to another long playoff
run for the Seahawks. A team that had to have taken it personally that their bitter rivals had cigars in their teeth and damaged their locker room from celebrating a Lombardi Trophy win.
Are moral victories a thing? Depends on your perspective. Seattle fumbled three times and was intercepted twice and still had a chance to win that thing. Last year, Sam Darnold only had three games where he threw multiple interceptions, and two were the Rams. The game against the San Francisco 49ers was a total meltdown but was still a tight game down to the very end.
Having that been said, how are Seahawk fans feeling about the franchise’s chances moving forward? Well, 93% still believe that this team is making the playoffs, although that comes with a caveat.
After topping some power rankings to begin the year, Seattle fans overwhelmingly (70% of those polled) see them as a wild card team. While there is a lot of season left, with less than 1/3 of the regular season games having been decided, this is somewhat understandable, as the Seattle Seahawks currently sit outside of the playoff picture.
In the NFL’s playoff format, a team needs to either win their division (seeds 1-4) or earn a 5, 6 or 7-seed as a wild card team. In the 2025 Super Bowl-winning season last year Seattle was the #1 seed in the NFC, won during a dramatic last-second win against the Los Angeles Rams.
Both the Rams (5) and the San Francisco 49ers (6) entered the tournament last season as wild card teams.
The Hawks are currently in a logjam of records, tied with 10 other teams at 3-2 with the 4th-best win percentage thus far (0.600). It might be tough for the Seahawks to catch the Niners (5-0), who join the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings as the triumvirate of undefeated teams in the league headed into Week 6.
The NFC north trio of the Bears, Lions and Packers also have 3-2 records and currently squeeze Seattle out of the picture. Despite the current climate, a majority of 12’s seem to believe this is heading in a better direction.
It’s a 59/41 split between those who are confident the Seattle Seahawks are headed in the right direction and those who don’t. The Seahawks still look forward to the returns of Anthony Bradford, Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price, as well as the continued health and re-acclimation of Tory Horton, Trevon Diggs, Sam Darnold and Ty Okada.
Needless to say, a Thursday primetime game against the similarly 3-2 Denver Broncos is a chance to make a statement, after an absolute street fight against a contender last week.
