One of the more interesting things about this year’s team is the point guard competition between Caleb Foster and Cayden Boozer.
Foster is a known commodity and has earned – and deserves – respect for his grit and desire.
Boozer is a freshman of course and half of the Boozer twins along with brother Cameron.
The greatest thing about the Boozers is that they win and win a lot. Cameron is the more celebrated of the two, but Cayden, from what we’ve seen, is a wicked smart point guard. People have criticized
his shooting and his athleticism, but for our money, not being the most athletic point guard is an advantage in college because it means you have to think the game better to come out ahead.
And as noted, Boozer does typically come out ahead. Some guys just know how to win.
From the Chronicle: “To put it succinctly, Boozer is a winner — the perfect addition to a Duke team that, in recent years, has repeatedly fallen short of a coveted sixth national championship. In the 2025 Chipotle Nationals Semifinals, Boozer hit the game-winning buzzer-beater over now-teammate Sebastian Wilkins’ Brewster Academy. The very next game, he notched a game-high 27 points to secure the trophy…Boozer possesses a heightened ability to read ball-screens and a sense of cunning versatility in the paint — attributes that are particularly valuable for this roster.”
He may or may not start, but he’s going to have a major impact.
One possible thing we had not considered and have not seen anywhere else…Cameron has always gotten the most attention between the brothers. Does that at some point become a motivational tool?
