The Tennessee Titans have upgraded various positions this offseason. Safety wasn’t necessarily one of them. It’s fair to question whether or not the Titans possess enough depth at safety heading into training camp.
The unquestioned starters are Amani Hooker and Kevin Winston Jr. Hooker has been somewhat injury prone throughout his career, though he was very healthy in 2025. Winston missed a large portion of the beginning of his rookie season due a partially torn ACL suffered at Penn State (and the after-effects),
and then finished the year on IR.
General manager Mike Borgonzi released 2025 starter Xavier Woods earlier this offseason. It saved the Titans roughly $2 million in cap space. Woods is a league-average player, but his departure created a need for a depth safety.
The Titans filled that hole by signing veteran safety Tony Adams. New head coach Robert Saleh previously coached him with the New York Jets. Adams is an overachiever as a 2022 undrafted free agent, but he’s still a replacement-level player. Hopefully his familiarity with Saleh and the defensive playbook will allow him to make a positive impact.
Undrafted free agent Bishop Fitzgerald possesses an excellent opportunity to make the 53-man roster. A ballhawking playmaker, he notched five interceptions for the Trojans this past season. Fitzgerald left college football having recorded 10 total interceptions.
Kendell Brooks, Erick Hallett II, Sanoussi Kane, and Jerrick Reed II are also on the offseason 90-man roster. That doesn’t inspire much confidence. Reed is an expert special teamer, so he probably possesses the best opportunity to compete for the fourth or fifth roster spot at safety.
The Titans desperately need Hooker and Winston to stay healthy throughout 2026. They also need the defensive line, linebackers, and cornerbacks to take pressure off their responsibilities. There’s a questionable lack of depth at safety that deserves more offseason attention.
