Top 25 Ole Miss and Southern Miss was slated to be a classic at neutral site Trustmark Park on Tuesday but turned into a Rebels rout, 10-3.
Ole Miss (27-11, 8-7 SEC) was clicking offensively yet again with Tristan Bissetta coming a triple short of the cycle going 4/5 with two RBI and a home run while Will Furniss notched four RBI in the blowout win. Southern Miss (26-12, 8-7 SBC) seemed shellshocked after a five run third inning put the Golden Eagles behind, and Ole Miss built a 10-1 lead by the seventh
inning.
JP Robertson started things strong for the Rebels on the mound with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts with Landon Koenig coming on in relief for two more scoreless innings and three more strikeouts to earn the win.
A ton of credit to the Ole Miss pitching staff for getting USM to leave eight men on base in this game. There were some jams here and there, but the Rebels pitched its way out of them more often than not. And from there, this lineup that has been frustrating for fans delivered in a big way with 10 runs on 11 hits while only leaving five stranded on Tuesday.
The win avenged an earlier season loss in Hattiesburg to USM in a 2-1 walk-off. On Tuesday, it looked like two very different teams compared to the game on March 10 in the Hub City.
Ole Miss is now on a six game winning streak and is vaulting itself into the mix for a regional hosting bid for the NCAA Tournament with its latest streak. With a top 15 RPI, the Rebels just have to keep up this boost in offensive momentum as it goes on the road next to Knoxville to face Tennessee in a three game weekend series.
