The Milwaukee Brewers have already picked up a (needed!) series victory on the road in Pittsburgh this weekend and restored a little more cushion to their now six-and-a-half-game division lead. A win this afternoon would be an extra little bonus. Today also features an intriguing pitching matchup between two of the game’s most exciting, flame-throwing pitching prospects, Jacob Misiorowski on the Milwaukee side and Bubba Chandler for the Pirates.
Misiorowski is still finding his way a bit after his stint
on the injured list in early August. He has at times shown the same sort of dominant stuff that had the baseball world abuzz earlier this summer, such as in his five-inning, ten-strikeout game against the Diamondbacks on August 26th. But over his four starts since coming off the IL, Misiorowski has had a penchant for melting down as soon as something goes wrong and he’s been bitten, frequently, by the big inning. Miz has allowed at least three earned runs in each of those four starts, and hasn’t gone more than five innings in any of them. As the team figures out what, exactly, to do with Miz down the stretch, a good start would go a long way toward clarifying that role.
Chandler, who turns 23 next week, is one of the top prospects at any position in the league. He entered the 2025 season as the number seven, 15, and 21 overall prospect according to Baseball America, MLB Pipeline, and Baseball Prospectus, respectively. A third-round pick in 2021, Chandler shot up the prospect boards after pitching to a 1.83 ERA and 12.4 strikeouts per nine innings at Triple-A Indianapolis in seven starts as a 21-year-old in 2024. Like Misiorowski, Chandler has a fastball that sits in the upper 90s. Though his minor league numbers in 2025 weren’t quite as good as they were in 2024 (his walks are up this season), Chandler got the call in late August and has made three appearances out of the bullpen, in which he’s allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk in 12 innings with nine strikeouts. Today will be his first major-league start.
Christian Yelich remains out of today’s lineup, which is not exactly shocking after two wins in the series and an early Sunday afternoon getaway game. According to Adam McCalvy, Yelich did swing a bat yesterday and didn’t rule out the possibility that he could be used as a pinch-hitter today.
Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio also have today’s game off, and we’ll see Jake Bauers—who has had an excellent series—in right field, alongside Isaac Collins in left and Blake Perkins in center. William Contreras will serve as today’s designated hitter.
First pitch today is at 12:35 p.m. central time, so you’ll have plenty of time to get this one in before the Packers kick off at 3:25. Find it on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
The Pittsburgh lineup is coming in a bit late today, and will be added when available.
