If you’re like me, you are still in celebration mode after Georgia’s dominant victory on Saturday against the Alabama Crimson Tide. That game was euphoric for me, as I’m sure it was for many readers. Back in 2012, my young teenage self had a camera ready to take a picture of the TV of what I knew would be a Bulldog victory over Alabama in the SEC championship. How could it not be? Aaron Murray and co. were on the Bama eight yard line after some impressive throws late in the fourth quarter.
I won’t
ruin your mood by telling you what happened next. To make a long story short, seeing the Dawgs thoroughly thrash the Tide made up for that heartbreak in the Georgia Dome all those years ago. Well, almost.
Anyways, the biggest contributor to Georgia’s win was a nasty defensive effort (they only allowed -3 rushing yards by the way). Good defense was also seen across the NFL last week by many former Dawgs.
A man who we haven’t spoken much about in these columns is Travon Walker of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has battled some injuries this season but returned in time for an important AFC South matchup between the Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts. Walker recorded six tackles, including one tackle for loss, in a 36-19 victory for Jacksonville, who now own a 9-4 record and sit in first place in the AFC South.
On the west coast, Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams returned to the win column Sunday by cruising to a 45-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Stafford continued to build his MVP resume by throwing for 281 yards and three touchdowns in the win. He currently has the best odds to win the award according to FanDuel.
Unfortunately for the Philly Dawgs, they did not get a MVP-like performance from their quarterback on Monday night as the Eagles dropped their third straight game, this time to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Eagles’ defense sacked quarterback Justin Herbert seven times on the night, with Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis accounting for two and a half of them.
Unless they figure out their offense, it doesn’t seem like Dean, Davis, and the other Bulldogs in Philadelphia will get an opportunity to win a second straight Super Bowl.
That’s all for this week. Come back next Thursday to read more about the adventures of your favorite former Dawgs in the NFL. Until then…
Go Dawgs!
