In the fourth quarter of the Green Bay Packers’ Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions, on a Micah Parsons sack, Packers defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt went down with an ankle injury. It did not look
good. I’m no doctor, but it sure looks like Wyatt’s ankle snapped under the weight of friendly fire from teammate Warren Brinson.
I’m going to guess that Wyatt, who was carted off the field after a long delay, is not going to return this year.
At the moment, the Packers carry four other defensive tackles on the 53-man roster. They are Colby Wooden, who has mostly started as a nose tackle, Karl Brooks, who played under tackle like Wyatt, Brinson, who is another under tackle, and Nazir Stackhouse, who rotates in on a limited basis as a nose tackle.
This week, Brooks missed action with an injury of his own. They’re going to need Brooks to eat up snaps moving forward, as the team is really down to a three-man rotation at the position, considering how few snaps the team trots out Stackhouse for.
The Packers may look at the veteran market to add a player to the room, following the Wyatt injury, but there shouldn’t be many options available this late in the season.
Wyatt, a first-round selection, had his fifth-year option picked up for 2026. He is expected to return to a starting role with the team whenever he’s healthy.
