How Acquired
Cody Miller was drafted in the 3rd round, 96th overall, in the 2025 MLB draft out of East Tennessee State.
What Were Expectations?
There were a few expectations for Cody, given the Braves saw
enough in him to take him in the third round, but with the quality of competition Cody faced in college, the expectations were relatively low. There was an expectation that Cody would make a few starts following being drafted, given that he was a position player, and there were some expectations he would succeed at lower levels, again due to his overall production in college, but for a player coming into their first year in professional ball just staying healthy was the biggest thing. 2025 Results
Cody finished his junior year in college hitting .331/.430/.623 in 58 games. He was the top player on his team, and one of the strongest producers in the SoCon. With solid production in the Cape Cod league where he hit .261/.333/.449 the Braves saw enough and picked him in the third round. Cody’s stay in the complex was short and he made 26 starts after being drafted. In Augusta, Cody would hit .372/.412/.488 in 10 games which gave him a 163 wRC+. With questions about his ability to hit higher end velocity, due to his collegiate competition, Cody seemed to quickly answer them. The walk rate was a bit low, sitting at 6.3% and something you definitely want to see rise, you can’t really complain about his results. The Braves agreed, and after 10 games promoted Cody to Rome. Cody would play 26 games for the Rome Emperors and showed out by hitting .297/.357/.422 despite playing by far the most games he’s played in a single season. The strikeout rate did rise all the way to 31%, producing some issues given his history of low strikeout, high walk rates, but Cody still put up strong numbers. So after hitting .331/.430/.623 in 58 games, Cody would hit .327/.381/.449 in 26 professional games.
What Went Right
Pretty much everything went right for Cody in 2025. Not only did he produce at a high level in his final college season, he got drafted in the third round, and put up strong numbers after being drafted.
What Went Wrong?
Not much. The strikeout rate rising to 31% was definitely a flag, however it was in a very small sample, and after playing the most games he’s played in a year.
2026 Outlook
Expectations are extremely high for Cody who looked every bit the part of his scouting report. With a really good hit tool, progressing power, and excellent speed he finds himself with one of the highest offensive potentials in the farm system. Combine that with strong footwork and a great arm, Cody looks to be an incredibly valuable asset that can play shortstop, or be moved to center field due to his lights out speed. The only flag on him was the competition level at ETSU, but even then the production level eased those concerned. Coming into 2026, Cody has the makings of being a potential breakout prospect. With five legitimate tools, if his strikeout rate drops to around 20%, we are looking at a potential Top 100 prospect that can play multiple positions with an incredibly dynamic skillset.
