The Golden State Warriors begin the second half of their six-game road trip with Friday night’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons. Tip-off is set for 4:30 PM PT in Detroit and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area.
Previously with the Warriors:
The Warriors are coming off a 120–99 blowout loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. The game quickly got out of hand
despite Golden State entering the night slightly healthier than they’ve been for most of this road trip. Boston’s star power proved to be too much, with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum combining for 56 points.
Meanwhile, Kristaps Porzingis was reinserted into the starting lineup for his return to Boston. He made an early impact with two blocks and a three-pointer, but struggled to find consistency the rest of the way, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field.
What to watch for tonight:
The Warriors are expected to play their veterans on the front end of this back-to-back, meaning Draymond Green, De’Anthony Melton, and Porzingis should all be available Friday night.
Meanwhile, Detroit will be without All-Star guard Cade Cunningham, who was diagnosed with a collapsed lung Thursday morning and is expected to miss extended time, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Despite Cunningham’s absence, this won’t be an easy matchup for Golden State. Detroit enters with a 50–19 record — the best in the Eastern Conference — and has built its success on defense. The Pistons rank second in defensive rating while leading the league in steals (10.4 per game) and opponent turnovers (17 per game), two areas that could spell trouble for the Warriors’ offense.
While Golden State has already acknowledged it’s likely headed for the Play-In Tournament, these final 13 games remain critical for building good habits. Friday presents another opportunity to sharpen their execution against one of the league’s top teams as they look to build momentum heading into the postseason.
