The injury situation in Bayern Munich is a mirage — one moment the entire squad is healthy and playing well, and before you know it, we are back to establishing an infirmary. Such is the situation right now, as Alphonso Davies finds himself injured again after his recent return from his ACL injury.
Following a run-in with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Mahmoud Dahoud, Davies found himself wincing. The Canadian’s reaction was grave and he was taken off the pitch immediately.
Davies’ injury had unintended and
devastating effects on the game, for it seemingly threw Bayern off their balance. The game slowly slipped from their fingers and they conceded twice right after. What was en route to being a massive victory, instead ended with a disappointing 3-2 scoreline.
Following the game, board member for sport Max Eberl spoke to Maximillian Koch from Abendzeitung. “It looked like it might be something that would keep him out for long. It has to be something muscular. He’s already undergoing tests,” Eberl said, per @iMiaSanMia.
One can only hope it is not as bad as they make it out to be for multiple reasons. For one, Davies’ absence sets us back badly — Konrad Laimer is still out and that means Josip Stanisic is the only available right-back. Though Ito can play in Davies’ spot, this leaves Bayern with only one fullback per wing.
Secondly, more importantly, this is extremely bad on a player psychologically. Davies was deeply impacted by his ACL tear and an injury coming in at this point in his return can be devastating for any player.
For now, all we do is sit back and wait until the reports come in…
