Payton Talbott added another former champion to his resume after a lightning quick win over Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 332.
While Talbott was a heavy favorite to win, he still had to go out and perform and that’s exactly what he did. He hurt Figueiredo early and never stopped his assault until he got the stoppage at just 2:09 in the opening round.
“Extremely happy,” Talbott said about his win.
“I just mopped the floor with two champions back to back. Sean O’Malley, you can’t run forever.”
Talbott spoke openly about how he was offered O’Malley for the UFC White House card but the promotion ultimately went with Aiemann Zahabi instead. O’Malley scored a knockout win that night but now Talbott wants his own shot at the former UFC bantamweight champion.
A right hand down the middle from Talbott dropped Figueiredo almost immediately, although the former flyweight champion was able to get back to his feet. Talbott stayed on the attack and nearly took his head off with a knee but Figueiredo was able to grab onto the body lock to slow him down.
But Talbott separated and he blasted Figueiredo with another huge shot, although the Brazilian was more than willing to fight fire with fire.
That game plan didn’t work.
Talbott tagged Figueiredo again and he just kept blasting away until referee Jason Herzog saw enough to stop the fight.
Now 12-1 in his career, Talbott appears poised for a massive fight and a matchup against O’Malley certainly fits the bill.
