In what now seems like a very odd series of event the Indianapolis Colts have released Darius Slayton.
Slayton was signed on September 22nd following Alec Pierce’s week two injury that sent him to injured reserve. There was some hope that Slayton could come in and become a downfield option that the Colts lacked with Pierce out. In the end the Colts move on from Slayton without him ever appearing in a single game for the horseshoe.
Slayton was never going to be a revelation
for a receiver corps struggling to produce week in and week out but at this point any veteran help they could get was being welcomed. Afterall, get a guy into a game and you never know, it’s possible he could have a game or make even a single play that could get Indy a win they otherwise wouldn’t have gotten. Instead the Colts move on and this brief signing will be nothing more than an answer to a weird Colts trivia question a decade from now.
The question now becomes, how do they fill this roster spot? It seems that tight end Will Mallory is close to making his return and while most probably would not love the move Anthony Gould keeps bouncing between the practice squad and being elevated for gameday, so that move could make some sense. What is unlikely is that there is any sort of needle moving transaction coming for the Indianapolis Colts, at least not until the offseason.
Check back in to see who fills out the 53.
