Some pro wrestlers will get tribal when it suits them. But when they’re not working, most seem to put their professional fellowship with other performers above allegiance to the company they’re signed to.
Mostly, we see that around tragedy, as we have over the past month around the deathes of Andy “The Butcher” Williams, Ben “PAC/Neville” Satterley, and Jeff “Cannonball” Guerriero. But sometimes wrestlers get so excited by what we all see on our screens that they can’t help but act like fans themselves.
We saw two examples of that from the main event of Saturday night’s Money in the Bank premium live event.
That main event was this year’s men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Je’Von Evans didn’t win it, but he was a focal point of the match. Evans was his usually impressive self throughout, and — however illogical the set-up or questionable the prop design — perfectly took a crazy bump from the top of a ladder in the ring through the roof of an ambulance parked beside it.
It popped someone who’s been known to take a wild bump or two… and isn’t usually in the habit of saying flattering things about WWE. But Saturday night Ricochet made no mention of the company, just the bouncy brother who’s turning into a star for it:
I’m honestly a Je’von Evans fan 🔥
Another AEW name who spent time at WWE popped for the ending of this year’s men’s ladder match. Andrade El Ídolo couldn’t help shouting out his lucha brother after Penta claimed the case in New Orleans (translation via Spanish via X/Twitter):
Congratulations to a good friend and teammate
@PENTAELZEROM
Long live Mexico, you bastards!!
In the comments below, share your praise for Evans and Penta. Or just celebrate the latest instance of pro wrestling bringing folks together!
