🏀 The Big Story: Shauna Green is sticking around
Illinois women’s basketball coach Shauna Green has agreed to an amended contract extension that could keep her in Champaign through June 30, 2036, pending approval from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees on Sept. 17.
Green has completely changed the trajectory of the program since taking over in 2022. She’s gone 85-47 in four seasons, led the Illini to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and delivered the program’s first postseason championship with the 2024 WBIT title.
After last season’s
22-12 finish and another NCAA Tournament victory, Illinois is betting on Green to keep the momentum going.
🏈 Duke comes to town tomorrow
It’s almost game day. Illinois hosts reigning ACC champion Duke on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on FS1.
The Illini are 1-0 after beating UAB 42-23, while Duke opened with a 17-3 win over Tulane. Illinois is currently a 5.5-point favorite.
This is easily Illinois’ biggest test before Big Ten play and a chance to show whether the defensive issues from Week 1 were just growing pains.
🏐 Volleyball heads to Milwaukee
Illinois volleyball takes its three-match winning streak to Milwaukee tonight to face Marquette at 5 p.m. CT on FS1. The Illini are 4-2 after Wednesday’s sweep of Lindenwood.
Illinois will return home Sunday for the rematch with the Golden Eagles.
⚽ Soccer makes statement against No. 14 Wisconsin
Illinois soccer held No. 14 Wisconsin to a 0-0 draw Thursday night at Demirjian Park, extending the Illini’s unbeaten start to the season. Illinois and Wisconsin each managed just five shots, with goalkeeper Izzy Lee making four saves to preserve the shutout.
The result moves Illinois to 3-0-4 overall and 0-0-1 in Big Ten play. And with Michigan coming to Champaign Sunday, the Illini have another huge conference test coming up.
🎾 Tennis opens fall season
Illinois women’s tennis begins fall competition today, with portions of the team competing at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic.
