All roads have lead up to this week’s matchup between Nebraska and Michigan. It looks to be a great opportunity for Nebraska to get a signature win against a Top 25 Blue Blood program in Michigan. The Wolverines will show up without their head coach as Sherrone Moore is suspended this week which includes the game. Biff Poggi was the acting head coach against Central Michigan and will serve in the same role against Nebraska.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, Nebraska is currently a 2.5 point underdog against
Michigan with the over/under set at 44.5 points.
Nebraska has spent the past two weeks dominating vastly inferior opponents. Their win over Cincinnati would be a better barometer for what to expect in the game against Michigan. The Wolverines have a five star true freshman who is starting to use the quarterback run game. He had 114 rushing and two touchdowns against Central Michigan. He will be a touch matchup for the Blackshirt defense.
Michigan is 2-1 on the season with their only loss against #18 ranked Oklahoma by 11. Their first game was against New Mexico, which they won 34-17. That New Mexico team just beat UCLA this past weekend and it wasn’t close (New Mexico won 34-10).
Nebraska currently has the second ranked passer and second ranked rusher in the Big Ten. This is true even though they didn’t play in the 4th quarter against Akron or the second half against Houston Christian. The Nebraska defense will likely be able to keep Nebraska in the game if they can stop the run. Michigan will have problems passing against Nebraska but it will be the quarterback run game and the Nebraska rushing defense which will probably determine the winner of the game.
A -2.5 point spread is essentially a pick’em type game. This is the best a Nebraska team has looked since probably Bo Pelini was the head coach at Nebraska. I’m not sure that will be enough to get a big time win against Michigan but I feel better about their chances now compared to before the season started.
Matt Rhule has been exercising several demons for Nebraska. Will he get his next one on Saturday?
