We now know that the Kansas City Chiefs will open the season without two starters, one on each side of the ball: left tackle Josh Simmons and safety Chamarri Conner will be listed as out for the Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos, according to Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid during his press conference on Saturday.
Defensive tackle Chris Jones (Calf) popped up on Friday’s injury report as a limited participant. Reid provided further clarity on that.
“Chris’ calf tightened up, so we just kept him out
today,” Reid told local media. “[It was] precautionary.”
“I think he’ll be all right when it’s all said and done,” Reid later said.
Reid also shared that second-year defensive end Ashton Gillotte (Foot) is “good to go.” He has been a full participant in practice this week a month or so after rupturing his plantar fascia during training camp.
The final injury report will be released Saturday afternoon.
