There was a timeline of Max Eberl’s ongoing despondence on the pursuit of Chelsea attacker Nicolas Jackson and with each check in, you could feel the darkness taking over Eberl’s soul.
Before the game, Eberl did not want to close the door on anything — at least not publicly.
“Transfers are only finalized once the signatures are in place. He [Jackson] is there, and then we’ll see. We’ll take a closer look at it after the game and act accordingly. It’s easy to understand: You negotiate, you reach an agreement,
then comes the medical check, and extraordinary things still happen. I can’t say what’s going on now,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Later, Eberl would relent and open up about the situation and sounded bitter about the whole situation.
“Chelsea have informed us that they want the player back – after we had reached an agreement yesterday and were given permission to conduct the medical. Now the situation is that the guy is in Munich and we have to send him back. That’s the current state of affairs, I can’t look into the future,” Eberl said (as captured by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg via @MiaSanMia).
Finally, Eberl acknowledged that it is time to start over.
“Everyone will now revisit their network and contacts to a certain extent and then we’ll see what’s possible,” Eberl said (as captured by Abendzeitung’s Kilian Kreitmair via @iMiaSanMia).
Amid all of the transfer craziness surrounding Bayern Munich’s work with Chelsea over a loan deal for Nicolas Jackson, there was an actual game to be played — and Bayern Munich was up to the task even if a slow start and a midgame loss of focus might have given Die Fuggerstädter some hope.
