Remember last week when Chad Gable took that Egoplex on the outside of the ring from Ethan Page and it looked like he may actually be hurt? The finish of the tag team bout they were working came not long after, with Page pinning Dragon Lee to further establish himself as a contender to Gable’s Intercontinental championship.
Well, the champ declared during the week he was doing okay and WWE immediately made it the main point in the story for booking a title match between the two on this week’s episode
of Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn. Gable had tape on his neck and shoulder and was selling it even during his entrance.
Of course, it didn’t stop him from going all out in the match. At one point, he hit an Olympic Slam on the announce desk before going up for a moonsault and getting a two count. Later still, he took an avalanche powerslam from the top rope and still kicked out.
The key to the match ended up being an exposed turnbuckle. Page had taken it off earlier while trying to fight off Gable but by the time they went back to it enough had happened we forgot about it. Page kicked Gable off from the Ankle Lock and he landed right on his neck in the exposed corner.
That was enough to get a three count off the follow up Egoplex.
We’ve got a new champion.
