There’s renewed hope in Michigan’s offense after finishing No. 58 in total offense and No. 68 in scoring offense in 2025. New Michigan offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who was Utah’s OC in 2025, is a major
factor in why optimism is warranted for the Wolverines’ offense moving forward. Last season, Utah ranked No. 4 in total offense, No. 2 in rushing offense, and No. 4 in scoring offense.
New Michigan offensive line coach Jim Harding, who just like Beck, came to Michigan via Utah with new Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham, spoke highly of Michigan’s new offensive vision under Beck’s leadership.
“I first began working with Jason a year ago, and the thing that I am probably most impressed by working with him is just how versatile he is and how adaptable he is to whatever skillset he has to work with from the perimeter standpoint,“ Harding said.
Harding sees Beck as a creative playcaller who will tailor his plan to the strengths of his players.
“His ability to really be creative in trying to take advantage of the skillsets of the kids that he has to work with,” Harding said. “And so really excited about, you know, I hear from coach Allford, you know, about these running backs. I’ve watched, you know, some of the Michigan games, I mean, they’re incredibly talented. And then the guys we’ve gotten, we were able to retain, but then also get out of the portal on the perimeter. I just think there’s a lot of weapons he’s gonna have.”
Beyond weapons at running back and receiver, Harding has been impressed with Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood, who’s entering his sophomore campaign.
“Really impressed with the way Bryce is, you know, my interactions with that kid are not extensive, but the ones that I have, this kid’s a really mature kid and impressive looking kid,” Harding explained. “Incredible arm strength just in my evaluation. And so I think Coach Beck has a lot of weapons at his disposal and I’m confident that he’ll use them to the best of their ability.”
From Bryce Underwood to running back Jordan Marshall to receiver Andrew Marsh, Michigan does have weapons on offense. Now it’ll be up to Beck to maximize their potential.
