Welcome back! We’ve had 2 roundtables this week discussing Saturday’s rivalry game between the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators. Click the links to see those pieces:
With that done, and plenty of things said, it’s time to get down to business and call our shots for Canes vs Gators. Here we go.
Call your shot. How does Canes vs Gators play out, who wins, and what’s the score?
Cam Underwood: I think Miami continues to prove their status as one of the best teams in the country this year. They will win
on both lines of scrimmage, frustrate the Gators offense, and work the ball methodically down the field to score.
Miami 31, Florida 17
Justin Dottavio: With the way Carson Beck and the offense have been going on their scripted drive/s, Miami is going to take a quick lead and never look back. I don’t think it’s 20+ points but a 13 point win? Sure.
Craig T. Smith: Put me in the camp of Miami seeing a better version of Lagway than we saw last week by a mile. I think this will ultimately be a competitive game that mimics the Notre Dame game where Miami gets out ahead by a good margin and holds on to the finish line instead of putting the Gators away. Miami 30, Florida 27
Mike Schiffman: If the Canes get out to the same start they did against USF, it could be a blowout. If they don’t, I could see it being a one-score game in the fourth quarter. I think it falls somewhere in between: Miami 27, Florida 17.
John Michaels: Florida has one strength on their team, and that is the defensive side of the ball. That said, Miami’s offense is one of the best in the country, and better than anything the Gators have faced so far this year. Mario Cristobal has not had an issue with high profile games at Miami over the last 2 seaosns, so I expect a focused Canes squad. Figure a close game for a half, but the dominant Canes lines take over in the 2nd half and straggle the Gators into submission. Miami 35 Florida 16
Jake Marcus: Miami and Florida are in different stages right now. The Canes dominated UF last year in Gainesville but the Gators ended up improving as the season went on, while Miami faltered down the stretch. Also, this is rivalry game where anything can happen and one of Cristobal’s shortcomings in recent years is playing too close against far inferior opponents. However, it looks like Florida is in a bad spot and will have a hard time in prime time on Saturday. Miami 38, Florida 17.
Rob Weaver: 31-13 victory for Miami. Florida’s defense is improved from last year’s season opener in The Swamp, but Miami eventually covers the -7.5 spread with ease.
Jordan Lopez: So I have Miami beating Florida, but I’ve been going back and forth on how this game is going to transpire. The Gators are talented in certain areas, just not well-coached. They can compete, but with how things are going and entering a stadium on primetime where the atmosphere may even be better than the Notre Dame game, I see Florida’s players saying, “not this again.” The confidence will drain once Miami imposes its will early, and I think it’s the type of beatdown that we wake up the next morning, and that notification of “Billy Napier has been fired” finally hits our phones. Miami 31, Florida 7.
