Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans! Your Georgia Bulldogs have played two-thirds of their regular season games, and two-thirds of their SEC conference games. And, two-thirds of the “traditional” rivals on the schedule, with only Georgia Tech left in a few weeks.
Are you still basking in the glow of a freshly flambe’ed gator? You should be. We have 360+ days to remind booger-eaters who still runs our state and theirs. Lots of other folks were impressed with the Bulldog defense that stymied the previously
4th-ranked SEC offense. That includes the folks in Birmingham, who awarded Chris Cole the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and Gabe Harris the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.
The initial College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed tonight on ESPN at 7:00 pm ET. Georgia may well be #2, just as it is in the AP poll, with Miami at #1. The real drama will be surrounding teams like 2-loss Ohio State, who are obviously not as good without injured QB Julian Sayin. The same could be said for Wake Forest, whose only loss was to the #1 Hurricanes, but with a QB who left Saturday’s game early. Utah is undefeated and starting to steamroll opponents. UCLA likewise undefeated but with a fairly weak schedule. Kentucky with some of that new car smell.
What does the committee think of Indiana, with a very close loss to Ohio State but also winning by the skin of their teeth most weeks thanks to Cignetti’s deal with the devil? Notre Dame lost to BYU but has otherwise looked very good vs. weaker competition, and BYU is also sitting with one loss – I sincerely hope, and solely for my own entertainment, to have BYU ahead of the Whinin’ Irish.
Coach Kirby Smart held his weekly Monday press conference, and I have to say he was a little more verbose on topics such as tampering and in-season roster management, SEC scheduling as it relates to night games in Athens vs. on the road, and motivation of players in the era of NIL. I don’t think there are any soundbites worthy of national scrutiny (unlike his post-WLCOP comments regarding injuries), but it does make one wonder how he might expound in a more private setting.
When asked about possible injuries to Dwight Phllips, Coach Smart answered “Fine. Probably more tired than hurt.” Similarly, about Ellis Robinson, the answer was “He looks good. Hopefully he’ll be good to go. We’ll find out more today.” That’s pretty positive, and pretty wordy from Kirby. And not a single mention of telling the media to wait until the availability report.
Basketball is here, whether you recognize it’s existence before February or not. Head Men’s Coach Mike White comes into his 4th season in Athens, having already notched more wins in his first 3 campaigns than any previous Bulldog coach. And while not the prettiest of openers, the Hoop Hounds won against NC Central 78-62. It wasn’t necessarily tough for the Bulldogs, but 6-26 from behind the arc kept the Eagles closer than should have been the case.
The Women’s team also tipped off the 2026-27 season Monday afternoon as the first game of a doubleheader at the Steg. The Lady Dawgs bullied West Georgia into a 92-53 victory on their home court.
That should get your Tuesday going as we head into the middle of the week of the last stretch of the regular season, before the post-season, and nonsensical scheduling. Which all makes perfectly good sense for college students. Still and yet, and as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
