A former Seattle Seahawk will be sidelined to start the regular season.
Safety Coby Bryant, who signed with the Chicago Bears during free agency after four seasons in Seattle, appeared to suffer a major knee injury on Monday when he was carted off at practice and appeared emotional. But, Bryant avoided a worst-case scenario, with the former fourth-round pick set to miss 8-10 weeks with a hyperextended knee, bone bruise, and small fracture, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday afternoon.
While the injury will keep Bryant out of the Bears’ lineup to begin the season, he should still be in line to make his debut in Chicago later on in the season after he signed a three-year, $40 million contract in March. Provided Bryant doesn’t suffer a setback during his recovery, he’ll be able to suit up for the Bears’ visit to Seattle on Monday Night Football in Week 8 on Nov. 2.
Bryant started 34 games and collected seven interceptions and 17 pass breakups during his time with the Seahawks, which started out at slot corner before moving to safety full-time under Mike Macdonald. Last season, he started 15 regular-season games as well as all three of Seattle’s playoff games en route to Super Bowl glory.
