Carles Puyol has given his verdict on Barcelona’s decision to sign Rodri and thinks the World Cup winner will be a big asset to Hansi Flick’s side.
Rodri has arrived on a four-year contract from Manchester City, and Puyol says he’ll be a great fit for the current team.
“I really like playing with a high defensive line. It requires commitment not only from the defenders, because if there’s no pressure on the ball, they can create a lot of problems,” he told EFE.
“Rodri is very good news for Barcelona.
We’re talking about one of the best midfielders in the world. I had the pleasure of seeing him play live at the World Cup; I like him a lot. He brings a lot of balance to teams and fits perfectly with Barcelona’s style of play.
“He’s shown that with Spain and at City under Guardiola. He’s going to help us a lot; it’s a key position, and now Barcelona’s midfield is going to be even stronger.”
Rodri heads to Barcelona after being named the best player at World Cup 2026 and has already made it clear he’s gunning for more trophies at Camp Nou.
