At this point, the release clause in Harry Kane’s first contract at Bayern Munich is well known. The release clause would be active every year until the end of January with decreasing sums requires to active the clause until the end of January 2026. The time for the activation of the release clause has now passed, as honorary president Uli Hoeness confirmed, and it is time for the Bavarians to hash out new terms with Kane before his current contract expires in 2027.
Unfortunately, if Bild’s recent
report is to be believed, Kane will want to add a fresh release clause to his new contract among other requests. @iMiaSanMia captures the report:
Harry Kane’s brother Charlie and father Patrick are in Germany and have held a second round of talks with FC Bayern over the weekend over a contract. Both sides have made further progress. They have agreed that the new contract will run at least until 2029 (Kane would even like one more year until 2030). In addition, Kane’s camp can imagine including a release clause in the new deal. Both sides are in agreement that the salary, estimated at around €25 million gross per year, would not be reduced if the contract were to run until 2029. One of the current points of negotiations is what the financial terms would look like if the contract were to run beyond 2029. Both parties are optimistic an agreement will be reached.
BFW Analysis
It is important not to fixate on Kane’s reported desire for a release clause. The report says his camp “can imagine” another release clause, which is very noncommittal wording. Furthermore, this is the first we have heard of a release clause. There is every chance that the possibility was brought up in early discussions and then dismissed. Or perhaps Bild are trying to add more spice to the story in what have been very peaceful negotiations so far. Lord knows it would not be the first time that site have embellished Bayern news.
Then again, Bayern have of course bent a knee in recent years to allow to likes of Jamal Musiala, Dayot Upamecano and, of course, Harry Kane (the first time around) to insert release clauses in their contracts. One cannot blame fans for fearing this has happened again.
