Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie met A.J. Brown over WR’s discontent – ESPN Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie met with A.J. Brown during practice last week to hash
out the star wide receiver’s public frustration over his role in Philadelphia’s offense, a senior team official told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio. The highly unusual move was prompted by Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro, who waved Brown over to the sideline during Thursday’s practice to chat with Lurie, the team official told Paolantonio. During the 10-minute meeting, Brown promised Lurie that he would stop complaining on social media, according to the team official. But Brown also told Lurie that he just wants to be a part of the offense and is frustrated, the official said. Lurie told Brown that he didn’t need to apologize, the pair concluded the meeting with a hug, and the wide receiver returned to practice, according to the team official. Team sources told Paolantonio that it marked the first time any of them could remember DiSandro facilitating a meeting on the field between Lurie and a player. DiSandro, who has worked for Lurie for 28 years, often attends private dinner meetings between Lurie and players.
Report: “Multiple Eagles offensive players have grown frustrated with Jalen Hurts’ approach this season” – BGN
Given how frequently the Eagles win, it’s hard to argue that their conservative approach isn’t effective. But one can wonder if there’s a better balance to be struck. (For example, do the Eagles really need to flat out give up on third-and-long as often as they’ve been doing this season?) It’s also hard to parse exactly how much Hurts is involved with the Eagles being so conservative. On one hand, he’s talked about how “the offense is going to look how Jalen Hurts wants it to look.” On the other hand, he’s also talked about how Nick Sirianni — who is outspokenly obsessed with limiting turnovers — has “let [Hurts] out of [his] straitjacket.” The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane recently offered his informed take on the Hurts-Brown dynamic via his unCovering the Birds podcast and it’s not incongruent with Russini’s reporting.
Nick Sirianni gets no questions about A.J. Brown’s Wednesday comments – PFT
Here’s the core question that remains unanswered, by anyone and by everyone: Why isn’t A.J. Brown getting more targets? That basic question has various tributaries. Is Brown being double-covered too often? Is he not the primary receiver on a healthy number of plays? Why aren’t plays being designed and called and executed to get the ball in his hands? When Brown is single-covered, why isn’t the ball being thrown to him more often? Lurking at the bottom of all of this is the one thing the Eagles continue to manage to bury. What’s going on with Hurts and Brown? Last season, recently-unretired defensive end Brandon Graham went there, saying that Hurts and Brown used to be friends but “things have changed.” (Graham quickly tried to perform a cleanup on Aisle 55, but he still said what he said.) That’s the unanswered question. The slowly rotting cheesesteak in the room. The thing that we’ll inevitably get the answer to at some point in the future. Maybe after Brown and Hurts are no longer teammates. Maybe when the book-reading Brown writes a book of his own about his years in Philadelphia.
A.J. Brown start or sit: Week 11 fantasy football advice – SB Nation
Start or sit in Week 11? Start. Don’t take Brown’s advice. You drafted him high and know that exactly what he’s capable of when the Eagles are actually dialing up big plays for him down the field. Starting him may be a bit of sunk-cost fallacy at this point, but you can’t abandon him given what his ceiling can be. Lock in and double down on the All-Pro.
Eagles notes: Belated Lions matchup, healthy O-line, ‘shop at Nordstrom’ for Jaelan Phillips – The Athletic
“We have the Detroit Lions, so I’m going to put a halt to that,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said after repeated questions about Brown. “We have a really good opponent coming to town. A team that, I can only imagine, has been waiting on an opportunity to play us, given history and how good they’ve been.” Hurts’ instincts were well-founded. The Lions have not downplayed the expected eventuality of the meeting, and edge rusher Aiden Hutchinson called this a “must-win” game given the push for the No. 1 seed. The Eagles would have a 52 percent chance of the No. 1 seed with a win, according to The Athletic’s NFL Playoff Simulator. The Lions would have a 20 percent chance of the No. 1 seed with a win.
5 Qs Lions vs. Eagles preview: ‘No worry’ in Jalen Hurts during biggest moments – Pride Of Detroit
The Detroit Lions are under new direction on offense, but “5 Questions” is still being run by the same guy. This week, we had the pleasure of connecting with Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation to give us some insight into the team currently at the top of the NFC standings. We got the lowdown on the drama between the Eagles and A.J. Brown, the whirlwind of changes at the defensive end for Philly including the trade deadline deal for Jaelan Phillips, and much more in the lead up to this highly-anticipated matchup between two of the best teams the conference has to offer.
Game Preview – DET at PHI – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles OL should be back to the original five. Cam Jurgens practiced this week and will take back over at center. If the big boys are relatively healthy and play well, it will make all the difference in the world. They will be going against one of the best pass rushers in the league in Aidan Hutchinson. He’s not as versatile as Micah Parsons, but is just as disruptive. The Eagles were very conservative at times last week as they focused on protection. With a healthy OL and this being a home game, the coaches might be more aggressive. I will be disappointed if the Eagles have another bad offensive game. Detroit has given up 27 or more points in four games. They have a good defense, but will give up points to good offenses. The Eagles have the firepower to score on them, especially with the Lions missing so many starting DBs. Will this be a shootout? Or will the Eagles defense continue their recent hot streak? Eagles starters gave up 13 points to the Giants and Green Bay only scored 7 points in the whole game. One of the big differences with Detroit is the quality of their OL and their ability to run the ball.
Sunday Night Football: Week 11 Lions-Eagles betting preview (odds, lines, best bets) – PFF
The Eagles emerged from their Week 9 bye with newfound strength on defense following a series of trades and contributors returning to the lineup. Acquiring Jaelen Phillips and returning Nolan Smith to boost their pass-rush rotation propelled the defense to generate its highest single-game pressure rate (48.8%) of the season. That will pose a problem for a Lions offensive line that has been dealing with injuries in recent weeks. Christian Mahogany is expected to be out until at least December, and both Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell are designated as questionable to play this week. That’s unfortunate news for quarterback Jared Goff, who has been particularly sensitive to pressure, with his 39.7 PFF passing grade under pressure ranking 32nd out of 38 qualifying quarterbacks.

Micah Parsons fined for tripping Saquon Barkley in Week 10 – NBCSP
Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons was fined for unnecessary roughness from the Eagles-Packers Week 10 game in Green Bay. Parsons was fined $12,172 for tripping Saquon Barkley in the fourth quarter of the Eagles 10-7 win over the Packers at Lambeau Field. Parsons, 26, was not flagged on the field for this infraction.
Commanders fans expect a 6th consecutive loss on Sunday, this time to the 3-7 Dolphins in Madrid – Hogs Haven
As measured by our Reacts survey this week, fan confidence has fallen to just 32% among Hogs Haven readers, the lowest point of the season excepting the 27% nadir reached in Week 8. The clear proximate cause for this loss of confidence is the current 5-game losing streak, which includes losses by a margin of 21 points or more in each of the last four games. But the issues likely go well beyond that losing streak.
Cowboys fan grades for the Quinnen Williams trade – Blogging The Boys
We have yet to see Williams play a down yet, but we wanted to grade the trade based on everything we know so far, but before Williams plays. Call it a baseline grade. When we asked, the majority gave it a ‘B’ grade (40%). An ‘A’ grade was in second place at 29%. Given how good of a player Williams is, and the Cowboys consistent struggles against the run, Dallas fans are giving this one a chance. We’ll get to see just how Williams plays in a Cowboys uniform on Monday night in a game that FanDuel has the Cowboys rated as favorites.
Giants-Packers pre-game ‘things I think’: The head-coaching derby begins – Big Blue View
If Mike Kafka is going to earn the full-time — I won’t say “permament” because nothing is permanent in the NFL — he needs to win some games over the next seven weeks. More importantly, perhaps, he will need to show Giants’ ownership that he can lead a full team while setting standards and demonstrating that he can and will hold players to them. Among the things that got Brian Daboll fired, an inability to hold players accountable was perhaps at the root of everything. The Giants have seemed like a say what you want, do what you want, play with whatever level of effort or non-effort you want without real consequences group for the last couple of years. Kafka has seven games to make a dent in, or reverse, that impression entirely. Fortunately, setting and maintaining expectations seems to be high on his priority list. In talking on Wednesday about what he believes makes a great head coach, this is part of what Kafka said: “Accountability, holding guys accountable to the highest standard. If it’s not right, fix it, don’t wait and let things just kind of trickle and snowball. You want to be able to do that.”
Patriots place Milton Williams on injured reserve, promote rookie to 53-man roster – Pats Pulpit
The New England Patriots will be missing Milton Williams for a minimum of four games. The organization officially sent the standout defensive tackle to injured reserve on Saturday afternoon. In a corresponding move, rookie outside linebacker Bradyn Swinson has been signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Williams, 26, limped off the field during the opening drive of Thursday night’s 27-14 win over the New York Jets. From there, he headed from the blue medical tent to the locker room before briefly returning to the game. Finishing with eight defensive snaps, the team downgraded the four-year, $104 million March signing to out with a left ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
