Enzo Maresca’s replacement has arrived, nearly as swiftly as the previous coach had departed. Liam Rosenior is in, having signed a 5.5-year contract — not that these contract lengths ever really mean anything.
Rosenior had been in charge of our sister club, RC Strasbourg for the past 18 months, leading them to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 and UEFA Conference League qualification. He had them going even stronger this season, before a recent dip in form in December (sounds familiar!). He should have some familiarity with this Chelsea team from the off, specifically with Andrey Santos who spent last season on loan at RCSA, and Liam Delap, whom he managed briefly at Hull City.
Obviously, as Rosenior has been part of the BlueCo “family”, he should also know how to work within the system already as well. The 41-year-old was always seen as a potential Chelsea boss in the long run, though perhaps not this quickly. Let’s hope he’s ready for the pressures, the drama, and all the other non-football factors that come with managing being a head coach at this club!
“I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.
“My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.”
