Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know as the Giants get set to host the Arizona Cardinals.
Giants star LB Brian Burns tore meniscus as well as ACL: Sources | The Athletic
New York Giants star outside linebacker Brian Burns tore the lateral meniscus in his right knee, in addition to tearing his ACL, according to league and team sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the injury.
Burns was scheduled to undergo surgery to repair both injuries Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery
in New York City. The typical timeline for recovery from ACL and meniscus surgery is 9-to-12 months. Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a similar injury on Sept. 28 last season. Even after a second “clean-up” surgery to remove scar tissue interrupted his rehabilitation, Nabers was ready for the start of the 2026 season.

Giants’ Arvell Reese heating up with Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love on deck | New York Daily News
When Reese is running and hitting the way he did against Tennessee, it makes him that much more dangerous when the Giants use him on the edge or as a blitzer. That’s when his mindset truly stands out: When he’s running in a straight line to the ball.
“Anytime we ask him to hit somebody his eyes light up,” said linebackers coach Frank Bush. “He really takes pride in the run game and being physical. It’s not just rhetoric with him. He wants to be dominating that way. So yeah, when we blitz him, his eyes light up a little bit…Because in his mind he can affect the game that way. Not a lot of thinking. It’s just a straight line, and if I whoop this guy’s ass, I got a chance.”
Inside the mind of this Giants weapon and NFL’s best punter ∣ The Record
There is an underlying truth with regard to Jordan Stout that only becomes more evident the longer you watch him punt for the New York Giants. Stout opens up about his goals, growing pains from rookie year to now, replacing a legend in Baltimore and making an impact.
Shelby Harris calls New York Giants ideal spot for J.J. McCarthy | USAToday.com
“Well, what I will say is he’s stepping into an organization that has the best coaching staff, especially on the offensive side of the ball, best coaching staff with a lot of star power on that side of the ball,” Harris said. “You gotta think the QB coach is Brian Callahan, a former head coach, literally just head coached last year. Then you have Matt Nagy at OC, you have Greg Roman as run game coordinator.
“So you have these guys who have so much experience in the game that I feel like it’s truly the best situation for a young quarterback to come into, to learn from a guy who’s worked with Andy Reid. You have guys who have been around the league that have over 30 years of experience almost each.”

J.J. McCarthy introduces himself to Giants as ‘a baller and a competitor’ | NJ.com
J.J. McCarthy stood on a stage in front of his new Giants teammates during Wednesday’s team meeting and started to speak. Whenever the Giants add a player, coach John Harbaugh has him address the entire team in the same way: Say your name, where you’re from and what your purpose and identity in life are.
McCarthy said something else that stuck with rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields. “He’s a baller and a competitor, he said,” Fields recounted to NJ.com later Wednesday. “He’s fired up to help us out in whatever way he can. I’m excited to get to know him and see what he can do.”
What Jim Harbaugh told brother John about J.J. McCarthy before Giants trade | New York Post
Jim Harbaugh spoke with reporters in Los Angeles on Wednesday and said he chatted with John Harbaugh before the Giants traded a fifth-round pick to the Vikings for McCarthy on Monday.
“I mean, John called me and asked me,” Harbaugh told reporters on Wednesday. “I said, ‘You know, John, I love you. I love J.J. I think you guys would be — ’ so, really, I’m telling you the same thing that I told my brother.”
J.J. McCarthy traded to Giants: Will he succeed in New York? | ESPN.com
The Giants don’t need McCarthy to shoulder the workload. This is going to be a run-heavy team, built through their offensive line, heavy personnel groupings and a Cam Skattebo-led backfield. McCarthy can make an impact with his legs, where he ran for 181 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. The Giants can retain some of the RPOs they installed for Dart, giving McCarthy easy answers for confidence-building completions. McCarthy was at his best booting out of the pocket and getting on the run, where his QBR in 2025 was a solid 67.7 — more than 40 points better than where it landed from throws inside the pocket (27.5).
In a carefully crafted offense, McCarthy can make this work. And given that the Giants are paying him less than $1 million over the rest of the season, he doesn’t have to be great for this deal to pay off. Winston hasn’t been able to move the ball, and while the weather was a real factor against the Titans, he was missing open receivers by yards against the Rams in Week 2.
