The Packers’ defensive line is facing a lot of questions this season. How will they answer them? If it comes down to a single player, the answer might have to be Chris McClellan.
We’ve written quite a bit about McClellan in the months since he was drafted, but it’s been a waiting game to see if any of our analysis would find the mark. So far, it looks like the Packers were on the money with their faith in the rookie defensive tackle.
The Missouri product has been running with the first team early in camp
as other defensive linemen work their way back from injury. What does that really mean when most of camp has been un-padded and McClellan’s contributions have come against his own teammates? Well, pretty much nothing, but we also can’t just flat out ignore it, either.
If the Packers’ defense is going to rise to its full potential, the Packers are going to need McClellan to play well throughout this season, but especially early. With Micah Parsons on the mend, the Packers will need all the help they can get, and with the defensive line still vulnerable, an early push from McClellan could go a long way.
