Newcastle United’s fight to keep Bruno Guimaraes is becoming another major test of the club’s direction after the exits of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
According to TEAMtalk, reporting the latest on Monday, Arsenal is considering a fresh offer for the Newcastle captain after seeing a verbal £55 million proposal rejected through intermediaries.
“Premier League champions Arsenal remain the most aggressive suitors, with exploratory talks already held and a verbal offer worth £55m launched through
intermediaries,” TEAMtalk reported.
The report states that sources close to Bruno believe he is becoming increasingly tempted by regular Champions League soccer after Newcastle missed out on European competition.
According to TEAMtalk, the Brazil international was already dubious about the team’s direction, and that frustration has grown following the high-profile sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, both members of the XI, which are certainly going to weaken Eddie Howe’s squad for next season.
Newcastle, however, continues to insist Bruno is not for sale, and talks over a new club-record contract remain on the table, reportedly for as much as £40 million.
“With two years remaining on his current terms plus a one-year extension option, the Magpies believe they can still convince him to stay,” TEAMtalk reported.
Out of the blue, TEAMtalk decided to throw the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona back in the Bruno conversation, I guess for the drama, before clarifying that Arsenal is currently pushing hardest.
For Newcastle, the concern is that a true formal Arsenal offer could arrive while Bruno weighs his loyalty to the black and white stripes against playing for the Premier League champions, enjoying Champions League football, and earning higher wages.
