Air Force comes up short… again.
Stop if you’ve heard this before, but the Falcons lost a one-score game in the final minutes. They actually out-gained the Golden Knights, putting up 335 total yards compared to 295. Going up against an arch rival in the Army, it was a hard-fought battle, with the game tied heading into the fourth quarter. But Army got the ball last, which has been the kiss of death for Air Force all season, and it was again today. Army hit a field goal as time expired and handed the Falcons another heartbreaking loss.
New Mexico overtakes UNLV and is going bowling.
This one looked to be a laugher early, but ended up being a hard-fought victory to get the Lobos to a bowl game. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead, but suddenly the Rebels battled back, as they often do, tying the game at one point. Later in the fourth, the Rebels pulled ahead and looked poised to pull out another fortunate victory. Instead, New Mexico rushed in for a score and got their sixth win while handing the Rebels their second straight loss.
The Bulldogs demolish the Broncos.
Fresno State got a shoutout last week, while Boise State won by 21 points. But from the start, it was the Broncos who looked lifeless in this game, even before they lost their starting quarterback early in the first quarter. The Bulldogs’ defense was great at shutting down the run and produced three turnovers as well. Their offense wasn’t at their best, but they did a great job taking advantage of short field position from Bronco miscues and their rushing attack worn down the BSU defense. FSU will also be going to a bowl game.
Aztecs keeping winning.
It wasn’t their prettiest win of the season, but San Diego State was in control for basically the entire game. The offense was a bit slow to start, but pulled away with 10 second-quarter points and never looked back. The Aztec defense held the Cowboys scoreless after the first quarter and the best defense in the conference created four takeaways to keep their offense at bay all game, holding them to a mere 185 total yards.
Spartans top Rainbow Warriors.
San Jose State jumped out to a big lead in the first half of this matchup, then held on for dear life to come away with a win against Hawaii. Leading 31-14 thanks to 24 second-quarter points, featuring a few rushing touchdowns set up by the big passing game. Walker Eget finished with 458 passing yards and two touchdowns, while the Spartans as a group put up 172 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs. The Rainbow Warriors battled back in the second half, getting to within 3 points, but SJSU was able to hang on.
