The NC State women’s tennis team took home the ACC tournament title on Sunday, just the second time it has ever done so. That’s in 44 years of ACC competition. Congratulations to the program on a historic day.
No head coach on campus has done a better job than Simon Earnshaw, when you factor in the program he inherited and the funding he works with. NC State had one top-three ACC finish in its history prior to his arrival in 2015; NC State hasn’t finished
lower than third in the ACC since 2018, a run of seven straight seasons (eight if you want to include the COVID-shortened 2020). Under his watch, NC State has won a doubles national title and played for a team national title.
Here’s a quick breakdown to put his accomplishments in perspective:
(ACC records don’t include ACC tourney results.)
Sixty-three total league wins in 32 years of ACC competition was all NC State had to its credit when he took over, but we’ve come to accept his team being in the top-15 nationally almost as a given. This season will mark the program’s 10th straight NCAA tournament appearance, and 16th overall.
