After a disappointing loss versus the Washington Commanders, the Seattle Seahawks look to get back on track at home versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Per FanDuel Sportsbook, they look to be seven-point favorites at the time of writing this. How will this get accomplished? Let’s take a look.
1. Aerial attack against Chargers secondary
The Seahawks are averaging 266 passing yards a game so far this season, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, averaging 135 of those yards. The Chargers are allowing opponents to throw for 233 yards per game. The Seahawks have
had eight passing touchdowns so far this season, while the Chargers have allowed four. Expect Jaxon to have another 100+ yard receiving game, with one to two more touchdowns to add to his six current touchdowns. He is on a historic pace right now.
Prediction: Jaxon Smith-Njigba 125 yards and 2 Touchdowns
2. The Dark Side to stop the run
The Chargers offense has averaged 113 yards rushing per game, but I do not expect that to continue. The Seahawks defense is allowing only 87 yards of rushing per game and 3.3 yards per attempt, and they haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in almost two full seasons. Even with getting 113 yards per game, the Chargers are only averaging 4.2 yards per attempt. I expect that to continue as the Seahawks defense is still ranked third per DVOA. Meanwhile, the Chargers have the 26th ranked offense per DVOA. Not a favorable matchup for them.
Prediction: Hold the Chargers to 90 rushing yards, no rushing TD’s
3. Expect the Seahawks to cover
The Seahawks are the seven-point favorite, and I expect them to cover that. With the bad weather and Sam Darnold’s first game back, I believe the loss to the Commanders was an anomaly. I have full faith that Mike Macdonald with get the team back on track and with the help of the fans cheering the team on at home, win this game. The Seahawks have been outscoring their opponents by 8.3 points and are ranked seventh in point differential across the league. Meanwhile, the Chargers are ranked 30th in point differential and allow opponents to outscore them by an average of 10.6 points.
Prediction: Seahawks cover the seven points
4. Under the 43.5 Points
FanDuel has the game at 43.5 points. The average Seahawks came is currently around 41.7 points, while for the Chargers their games are averaging 40 points total on the dot. Averaging those totals together comes to 40.85, just under three points from the Fan Duel prediction.
The Seahawks are averaging 25 points per game while the Chargers are allowing opponents an average of 25.3. On the other side, the Chargers are averaging 14.7 points per game while the Seahawks are allowing opponents and average of 16.7 points per game.
Prediction: 25-15 Seahawks victory, total points 40.
Concluding Points
The Seahawks generally do not lose back-to-back games. The last time it happened was in 2024 when they lost to both the Packers and Vikings in Weeks 15 and 16 during Macdonald’s first season. After that season, Macdonald was able to make the team more in his image, and has not lost back to back games sense, and just finished a 12 game winning streak (stopping there in respect to the 12’s).
I expect the Seahawks to continue to try to run the back with the committee of Jadarian Price, Emanuel Wilson and George Holani to set up the passing game. Will this be the game where Price gets his first rushing touchdown? That will depend on the offensive line that has had its struggles with opening up running lanes in the red zone. With John Benton coaching up the offensive line, I foresee the offensive line getting back on track, opening up running lanes for the running back stable, and Price getting his first touchdown of the season.
