Tonight’s game was previously scheduled to occur on Wednesday, December 17, but because the Spurs went to Las Vegas for the NBA Cup tournament, it was moved to tonight, to give the Spurs a rest day in the case they made it to the Cup Finals. Rumor has it that the Spurs did play in the finals, but since I can’t find that game in the regular season records, so it’s an unconfirmed rumor. The Spurs are on a three game regular-season winning streak, not counting any games which may or may not have existed on Tuesday night, and definitely don’t count in the team’s record. But because of that schedule change, the Spurs ended up having a back-to-back added to the schedule, as they will need to leave for Atlanta immediately after tonight’s game to face the Hawks. That’s right, it’s the dreaded first game of a home/road back to back, more colloquially known as a FIGAHOROBABA, which is tough, but not nearly as bad as the second game, the SEGAHOROBABA, which will be played tomorrow in Atlanta, and is always tough. This is the Spurs second HOROBABA of the season, previously they played the Grizzlies and Magic on December 2-3 and won both games. If the team can overcome their NBA Cup hangover, they could do the same, but tonight’s game against the Wizards could be a bit of a trap game situation.
The Spurs have everyone available tonight, and the Wizards have pretty much a full complement, with Sarr and Coulibaly being removed from the injury report earlier today, which means, that a lot of French could be spoken on the court tonight. The Wizards only have four wins on the season, but one of those wins was in their last game, over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. The Spurs can’t come out flat tonight, but if they put it on the Wizards early then the Spurs can go back to playing everybody, instead of the super-short rotations that Mitch Johnson used in Las Vegas. It would great to see the starters get some rest so that they can prepare for tomorrow night’s game, and for Jeremy Sochan to get his mojo back, which has been lacking lately. Speaking of mojo, how about Harrison Barnes hitting some three point shots after a tough trip to Vegas. I’d love to see that. Let’s go Spurs!
Game Prediction:
Keldon Johnson acknowledges that llamas are played out, and moves on to ranching emus.
