Lead Rumor: Roman Reigns’ influence
The talk of the past few weeks surrounding WWE has been its decision to move forward with the Crown Jewel premium live event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. There has been talk of wrestlers making clear to the company they don’t want to make the trip, considering all the security concerns.
Well, Dave Meltzer chimed in on Wrestling Observer Radio to keep it simple: “Looks, Roman’s going, and if Roman’s going ain’t nobody saying no.”
It would seem no one actually turned down going, and matches like CM Punk
vs. Kevin Owens taking place on SmackDown (spoilers here) was always planned that way and not a change made due to any kind of request from the talent.
Either way, we are close to the end of this saga and we can only continue to hope all goes smoothly once WWE makes the trip over.
Other rumors floating around
- Seth Rollins is featured in advertising for the combined Raw/SmackDown event on Mon., Dec. 21, which is likely so WWE can tape SmackDown in advance and give its talent the holidays off.
- WrestleVotes notes that with NXT getting TLC it’s possible the Iron Survivor Challenge could go to the main roster because Bruce Prichard really likes the concept.
- They also say they brought back The Demon for Finn Balor because they feel as though that’s a bigger match with GUNTHER than just Finn Balor as himself.
- One more from Votes: Despite online criticism to the quality of Nikki Bella vs. Chelsea Green for the women’s title on SmackDown, WWE has already moved on and aren’t judging them based on their performance there.
- Discussing recent reports about AEW’s future on Skydance, Meltzer said on WOR that people within Skydance said that “AEW was not on that list on where they expected cuts.”
