So after the hullabaloo, Trent Grisham is returning to the Yankees. There were questions about whether the Yankees would even give him a qualifying offer, and then another debate went on about whether he should
accept it or test free agency despite having a draft pick attached to him. We’re right back where we started though, just with Grisham $22 million richer. Good for him, honestly. There are worse insurance policies to have around in the event that the Yankees can’t sign Kyle Tucker or Cody Bellinger (at the very least, it sounds like they will still pursue Bellinger; I’m not sure if they’ve ever planned on seriously considering Tucker as a free agent) because outside of Aaron Judge, the outfield looked murky.
Today on the site, we’ll see pieces from Estevão and Jeff, with the former grading Tim Hill’s 2025 campaign out of the bullpen that convinced the Yankees to pick up his 2026 option, and the latter considering a big-time reliever as a potential free agent target: former crosstown rival Edwin Díaz, who opted out of the remainder of his five-year deal with the Mets.
Questions/Prompts:
1. Was Grisham the most surprising player to see take the qualifying offer? Or were you more taken aback by one of Gleyber Torres, Shota Imanaga, or Brandon Woodruff?
2. Any thoughts on the odd late-night Orioles/Angels trade of Grayson Rodriguez for Taylor Ward?
