After rumours started circulating from Saudi Araba, the Telegraph’s Jason Burt is reporting that Liverpool FC Sporting Director Richard Hughes is on a three-man shortlist for the same position at Al-Hilal.
As detailed in the report, these are reheated nachos: “reports of Al-Hilal’s interest had previously surfaced in January, when they were summarily dismissed, but have circulated again this week with agents convinced there is strong interest in Hughes.”
Burt also says “so far there has been no contact
with Liverpool from Al-Hilal about Hughes and no discussion over the 46-year-old’s future or indication that he might be interested in leaving.”
It’s always felt one-sided, and despite the obvious mistakes this season at centre-back and left-wing, I think Hughes has done a good job so far. That’s not to say he’s indispensable, and should Al-Hilal decide to throw ungodly sums of money at him, Liverpool should be okay in the long run. The overall direction doesn’t change much if Michael Edwards is at the top of the pyramid, and his previous successor, former-LFC Sporting Director Julian Ward is also on the staff as the current Technical Director.
So, to summarise it all, it’s kind of a big eh.
