Daniel Peretz was surprised earlier this year when he was not named number one for newly promoted Hamburg when he joined them on loan. Instead he has been left on the bench for every league match and only
played in three DFB-Pokal matches — including last week’s thriller against Holstein Kiel. He had back to back wins to begin his campaign, before coming up against Kiel. He was able to keep a cleansheet for 118 minutes, but conceded a late equalizer that forced penalty kicks. Peretz saved one penalty, but they ultimately fell 4-2.
After the match Peretz was asked if he would terminate the loan in January when the transfer window opens. He told Sport Bild (as reported by @iMiaSanMia) that, “I expected to be number one. That hasn’t been the case so far. Of course, I’m not happy about it. I make no secret of that. I think no footballer is happy when he’s not playing. My goal remains to play every game. I came to HSV to play as many matches as possible. I’m accepting the situation now, taking it one game at a time, training hard, and trying to give my best every day – to make it as difficult as possible for the coaching staff.”
Bayern are unlikely to recall Peretz to Munich without a solid plan to loan him out for the rest of the season. The question remains: if no other Bundesliga team is willing to give Peretz playing time, would it be better for him to remain in Hamburg and fight for a spot or go to a lower division where he could have constant playing time?
