On Tuesday afternoon, Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz spoke to the media as fall camp had just ended. In his opening statement he didn’t address the quarterbacks, and this was his final remark before taking questions:
“So with that, I’ll take the first question about the quarterback.”
It didn’t take long before a member of the media group fired away. The final answer from Drinkwitz:
“We’ll have a decision and talk to both those guys here in the next 24 hours about what we’re going to do and make sure
the team’s comfortable with the plan moving forward.”
Now, around 24 hours later, Drinkwitz gave his answer to media.
This wasn’t too much of a surprise to many people. With how close the race has been all fall, it’s not surprising that Drinkwitz wants to see the two play in ‘in-game’ situations. He’s done this before.
In 2023, after one year of Brady Cook starting, he was in a tight race with Sam Horn. The competition went through fall camp, and Drinkwitz was in a similar situation to where he is now.
During Mizzou’s Week 1 matchup against South Dakota, Brady Cook started the first half, surging the team to a 28-3 lead before Horn took over for the second half. Horn wasn’t as productive, finishing with 54 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Cook ultimately won the race, and went on to have a career season in 2023.
Horn now has his opportunity for redemption as he will split snaps with Penn State transfer Beau Pribula.
While it’s not for certain whether Sam Horn or Beau Pribula will start the first or the second half, fans will get to see both in action next Thursday against Central Arkansas at Faurot Field.
